Happy 2012 Everyone. An even number spells a good year. And a leap year too. Many good signs around.
Another good sign is the increasing popularity of the annual Dunkeld Adventure. Approximately 80% of teams who sign up for each year, are return participants. And at the start of 2012, that percentage of former teams have registered for the third Serra Terra Hike.
As a new year gesture, an offer is extended to other former teams for a $100 discount on their entry fee. This means Team Challenge entrants pay $900 (normal price $1000) and Relay Teams pay $1100 (normal price $1200)

Teams are taking advantageous of the early bird entry discounts, to join or compete in the Dunkeld Adventure’s Serra Terror endurance hike in 2012. To experience a different type of outdoor adventure, get your team together (from 4 – 8 people) and you too can be part of it for much less than the usual fee.
To register a team by the last day of 2011, there are substantial discounts (approximately 20%), but all monies must be paid by this date. Simply email or fax the entry form, (download from the website ) and pay directly into the Dunkeld Adventure bank account. All details are on the form.

The Dunkeld community are striving to redevelop the old Public Hall into a 21st century facility, delivering much needed infrastructure for the district. While maintaining the history of the Hall, the new Community Centre will provide modern health, education, family, social, leisure and community services. Your funds will contribute to Dunkeld’s plan for now and the future generations.
In 2012, we have also decided to support a wildlife cause, right in the heart of the Grampians. The critically endangered Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby was at the point of extinction. A captive breeding program has been underway to bring these reclusive gentle creatures back from the brink.Small numbers have been successfully released into small pockets of the Grampians. The Dunkeld Adventure event would like this to continue, as an environmental success story.
10% of the entry fees / fundraising paid by each team will be donated to this very worthwhile program.

Dunkeld Adventure’s philosophy is to develop a more interesting and unique experience with each passing year. We believe that our boutique event is one of the most enjoyable outdoor weekends of the calendar.
In 2012 we will hold our 3rd outdoor Dunkeld Adventure over the June long weekend : The Serra Terror 3
Starting from a point north of Dunkeld at Jimmy’s Creek, the adventurers will take a planned route, over crests, though historical ruins at Mafeking and check in at scheduled checkpoints, where a cosy fire and home made tasty treats await. And all this will be incorporated in the first half of the course!
Second stage of the event : A self navigation exercise through the land of Gariwerd – Grampians, discovering Serra Secrets and collecting tokens of value to gain points. But at the same time, those non-competitive participants will still have the brilliant outdoor vistas of the Serra Range to enjoy, photograph and experience.

Mark it in your calendar for 2012 – The June long weekend.
Friday 8 June – Monday 11 June, 2012.
Challenging, diverse and unique : the 80KM hike in and around the Serra Range of the Grampians National Park. The starting point in 2012 will be approximately 80 KM north of Dunkeld, near Jimmy’s Creek. You and your fellow trekkers will then weave and wander your way south, to a triumphant finish at the Event Coordination Centre, Dunkeld Memorial Park.
Along the way, climb to summits, discover “Serra Secrets” while undertaking self navigation sections, traverse wetlands and possibly catch a canoe some of the way. All the while, be immersed in the brilliant environment of the Southern Grampians.

ACCOLADES FOR DUNKELD
The annual Southern Grampians Shire Business Achievement Awards were held last Friday night. Awarding the best in the Southern Grampians Shire, the night is sponsored by the Southern Grampians Shire, A.C.E. Radio and Powercor Australia.
Held in the Hamilton Exhibition and Conference Centre, this most enjoyable night was packed with inspiring stories of business and community enterprise, guest speakers who entertained the large audience with gems of business and networking success and gourmet food served among a happy, convivial atmosphere.
Dunkeld Adventures event The Serra Terror II (which was run in June), this year was a Finalist in the Festivals /Community Event section for the best in the Southern Grampians.
Our Committee extends congratulations to another annual Dunkeld Event: Discover Dunkeld – A Mosaic of Experiences, for taking out First Prize.
Though Dunkeld Adventure missed out this year, a win for any Dunkeld event is a win for the whole of Dunkeld and the community.
It is all happening in Dunkeld, come and be part of our community events.
